Effective August 20, 2010 the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry will require that all offices administering local anesthesia have an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on-site and staff trained to use it.
But it’s not just a new mandates it’s the right thing to do; for your patients as well as to protect your business. These three articles provide some information on the the use of AEDs in dental offices as well as what we’re seeing when they are not.

It’s conclusion is that the incidence of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Medical and Dental practices is higher than at home and that while the incidence of cardiac arrest even in these locations is low, the cost per life saved is relatively low as well.|
|An interview with Dr. Morton Rosenberg of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine on the use of CPR and AEDs in dental offices. He believes that every office should have trained personnel at the Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider level, AEDs, oxygen and related equipment.|
